The Burgess Trophies
These
perpetual trophies are restricted to small pool swimmers only and are presented
to the boy and girl who have shown the most effort and best attitude during the
current course period.
The
trophies are presented on the evening after the time trials and should be
returned two weeks before the next time trials.
Each
teacher or coach may nominate a boy and girl from each session and will also
take into account attendance and determination. The greatest number of votes
will be awarded the trophy but swimmers will not be eligible for entry in the
next period after winning the award

The
club has 3 competing teams. They are the “Diddy” Team and the “Melton A”
and “Melton B” Teams.
The
Diddies get their name from the series of races sponsored by Reliant and the
Leicester and District league.
This
is usually a 43 event programme with both individual and relay swims for age
groups 9/U to 12/U boys and girls.
As
a new beginner this will probably be your first racing opportunity and it really
is a great lot of fun.
The
“A” team competes in the Speedo League for 11/U to Open age groups, and with
the “B” team in the Leicester League.
The
club will give the opportunity to swimmers who have not yet qualified for
consideration to the “A” team the chance to compete in “B” team races
and Galas. The club teams are also invited to and take part in many trophy and
invitation events

4s
Gala
There
are usually 4 galas a year in which all Swimmers including course swimmers of 7
years and older get the chance to swim in the main pool. Everyone swims in their
own age group and there are usually 2x1L swims or 3x1Lswims (depending on time).
These consist of 1 length freestyle and another stroke. 10year olds and upwards
usually swim 2 length races.
This
allows for the selectors of the club to have an indication of the potential of a
swimmer for selection into one of its club teams, and also a bit of serious fun
for the swimmers to race against their friends. Boys and Girls do not race each
other, but may compete in the same heat depending on numbers.
Sprint
Gala
This
event is usually held during May/June and is by its title a speed competition
usually over 2 lengths and is for the club swimmers only
Annual
Gala
This
takes place over two weekends during November, when a combined total of points
gained on positions in each of the 4 strokes, determines the first three and
overall winner in each age group. Medals and trophies are presented to the
winners and runners up.
Graded
meeting
(click

This
is an open meeting when swimmers from other clubs are invited to compete at the
club for a series of medals and trophies
NB
medals are awarded to the top 5 swimmers in each age group at the Sprint and
Annual Galas

Check
the team sheet and if your name appears tick the box that you are available or
cross out your name with a brief explanation as to why you can’t swim. Make a
note of the time/date of the meeting and the warm up start time.
For
away galas, the club puts on a bus for transport, so take a note of the time the
bus leaves and where from or inform the Team manager if you will be using your
own transport.
If
you tick to compete and are then unable to swim later let the Team manager know A.S.A.P.
If
your parents can help at a gala please get them to tick the helpers box

The
swimming club has 3 sponsors who are supporting the club with special Tee shirts
for wearing at specific galas. There are different shirts for the Diddy Team,
“A” Team and “B” Team.
You
can if you wish purchase for yourself, mum and dad a Tee shirt which carries the
chief sponsors name “MELTON BUILDING SOCIETY”. This looks particularly
impressive when all the supporters in the balcony are similarly clad. There are
also 2 other sponsors of the club “GRANGE GARDEN CENTER” and “B&H
SUPPLIES” who jointly sponsor the B Team

Each
month the club publishes its own news letter called “GO”.
The
news letter will tell you all about events which the club have been taking part
in, there are features on different members of the swimming club, articles from
different coaches or other members and general information on the clubs
activities.
There
is also a monthly Children’s Newsletter which is full of games and jokes and
information on competitions which different age groups can enter usually with a
prize for the winner. The newsletter will also let you voice your opinion in
print for any legitimate grievance

There
is a club shop where you can buy several items of sportswear and other goodies
at prices, which compared to other sports wear shops, are of exceptional value.
The
items range from swimming costumes to swimming bags, hats, goggles, pens,
pencils, and other items that are mementoes of the club.
The
club shop is usually only open on a Friday club night, or on days when special
events are being held at the club.

The
notice board is one of the most important places for you to find out what is
happening at the club so you should make a point of reading the articles posted
there each
time you are at the swimming club. This is the best way to find out if
you have been selected for one of the teams, and also to learn of other
important information that could be useful to you.
It
is also a good way of communicating messages to other members of the swimming
club that you would like to get in touch with
